Hi Karen Glad you found the link ;D Its gonna rain that day anyway so you might just as well go ;D ;D Suggestion : perhaps take a couple of photo's of your patients feet standing from the front showing the ankle and forefoot and from the rear showing the Achilles Tendon and heel position and let Robert have a look at them ?? Then listen and learn !! ENJOY !! D

Hey
You all sound so exited it makes me want to come as well. With this enthusiasm you're sure to have a great day.
Sorry Bel - no amount of evidence will convince us that you and Podmum are different people. I think you are the same but inhabit different universes and cross over via quantum thingamies. This being the case you cannot be at the biomechanics day at the same time or big explosion will occur.
Cheers Ian

The following request is not intended to sound nearly as pervy as it possibly might!
Any chance of any video footage of the day?
I would be prepared to pay cash. ;D
Handouts too would be grand.

Ah Ian. Always after the esoteric answer . The truth is much simpler. Anyone seen fight club? ;D Theres a few spaces left Ms Durden. Pop me a Cheque and i'll reserve you one. PM'd you the address. Don't know that the day will lend itself to videoing mand, sorry. We'll be mostly DOING rather than me standing and talking. I'll see what i can do though. There will be a few handouts but in the spirit of the day they will be very basic and short. Its an idea though. CPD by video conferencing! Might catch on. Regards Robert

Robert, As I'm so new to the subject of biomechanics, is there anything I could revise to help me keep up on the day at Swindon? Thanks, Chrissie

No need. We will be working from the ground up so i won't be assuming anyone will be starting from a level of knowledge. Foundation level. And EVERYONE will be keeping up. We simply won't leave anyone behind. We're like the marines 1 not like podiatrists 2. If that means we spend the whole morning on one thing (we won't) then so be it! Its a small enough group that we can do that. So don't worry Regards Robert 1 Motto "leave no wounded man behind" 2 Who often poke their wounded with sticks in order to make them scream and writhe.

phew!! Thank god for that!! I'm with you on that one Chrissie. My experience and knowledge of biomechanics is limited to a visit to the NHS pod to get my own manky feet sorted out with insoles. Looking forward to meeting you all on the 3/8, just packing up now to spend a week in sunny??? Devon. ;D It's nice to meet a few Floyd/Gilmour fans. My hubbby thinks i'm nuts!! See you all soon Kath

Greetings to all. The final details. Arrival at 915-930 The day will be split into 4 sessions. 1. Basic terminology, anatomy, planal movement, joint function. This will be pure theory. It really underpins the rest of biomechanics so without this people find it hard to read biomechanics or do home study or follow on with biomechanics threads on forums. Ever wondered what Dave S is talking about? Hopefully it will make more sense after this. This will help you access more information. 2. Overview of the dominant models. This will be an introduction to 4 basic biomechanics models. Root, sagital plane progression (Danenburg), Sub talar axial location and rotational equilibrium(Kirby), and tissue stress. Any one of these could be a day study so the point of this session will not be to teach them, rather to make you aware of what they are and how they work so you know what is out there. If the day goes well and there is a followup session we will go into them in sufficient depth to allow you to use them effectively. 3. Deflection biomechanics / biohydraulics. In the interests of giving you something you can actually use in day to day "routine" practice we shall spend some time considering the finer points of the simplest of the biomechanical modalities, offloading. You should be able to use this to good advantage in advising footwear, adhesive padding / cushioning, chairside orthotics and simple insoles. 4. Case studies I have set aside a session for an open and hopefully 360 degree discussion of case studies. E mail me some photos and biometric details to footprintsorthotics@googlemail.com for a patient of yours and we will cover as many as we can. Can be deflective biomechanics, "proper" biomechanics or a really challenging deformity / lifestyle / footwear challenge. Should finish around 430. You will need to bring the following. 1. Packed lunch (tea, coffee and buns are provided) 2. A pair of feet (preferably yours) 3. A pair of slippers (to fit whichever pair of feet you bring). Looking forward to seeing you all there! Regards Robert PS. 9 places booked, 1 remaining if anyone is lurking!

Now that is a tad optimistic! Unless you are going to make us fluent in Pythonian.
OK....why slippers? Never wear them, do i need to buy some? What about some slightly modified inappropriate ever so pretty blue slip ons?
Cheers, Bel
