Bill, I too do not have have a lot of time for G Ramsey. I remember back to the days of Fanny Craddock, well what could one say until she did her expose of the restaurant fiddles, do you remember monk fish and scampi, lambs liver as calves soaked in milk over night? Then of course the galloping gormet, followed by Floyd, met the man pi*** as a newt. Brilliant. Then we get the celebrities, what a load of tosh? Stein being the greatest of the tossers, pancakes of course. Bring back shrimp thingytail, beef bourgion crepes Susette. Tonight we are eating slow roasted goose legs cooked with garlic and fine herbs, with game chips, buttered broad beans and sauteed summer cabbage. Chopped melon and nectarine with lemon sorbet. Shy Thingytail? whats that then

Ah, that`ll be the automated censor. You can mention pancake tossers here, but not the 1970`s favourite dinner party starter consisting of prawns, seafood sauce and shredded lettuce!

If you recommended 'iceberg' instead of proper lettuce would it censer that?
Was going to add the chicken dish with wine but that would probably fail?
Made the most delicious Lasagna yesterday with home made egg pasta, not just the minced beef with cardboard on top I used to have to serve up to the drunks at 1am in the morning when in those days pubs closed at 11pm.
memories?

Bill,
My sincere apologies.
True Dorland 20th Ed (1944) does describe Clavus as 'a corn or horny tubercle of the skin, and more; Clavus hystericus , a sensation as if a nail is being driven into the head, c.secalinus, ergot of rye, c .syphiliticus, a flat horny growth on the hand or foot believed to be due to syphilis.
So now I understand.
Still not convinced about the shearing stuff.
My home edition of Dorlands was inherited, the up to date one is at work.

Yes, thanks for that, I quite like Dorlands even though it is from the other side of the pond.
I do not believe that I have ever seen clavus syphiliticus although I have frequently experienced clavus hystericus!
All the best

Just ate the goose.
Mmmm.
Forgot to mention this was not just any old goose, not your Lidl imported leg of frozen goose but
12 week old free range Fox killed Goose.
Not seen very often on the menu, unlike 'line caught bass' omitting to add the 'farm' bit.
Coming soon free range home slaughtered Gloucester Old Spot pork. Due to legislation not for sale to the general public!!!!!!!!!!!
Hence the need to be Shy.

Veggie SOW
Thank you for this opportunity to explain my attitude towards food.
From the age of about 20 I 'hunted for some of my food'. I caught it, killed it and ate it, wasting nothing. Probably if I had not caught it something else would have, in this case a seal. And no I do not agree with clubbing baby seals on the ice fields, unless of course the meat was a valuable food source.
Now the goose in question was killed by a fox, I just consumed what was left rather than wasting the gooses contribution to Gaia.
So for the very squeamish, in the very near future my free range pigs will be entering the freezer, having been home slaughtered.
They have had a very good if short life and will live on in my body, nothing will be wasted.
I do respect vegetarians, even more if they grew all of their vegetables and nuts and fruits instead of consuming masses of carbon processing them and transporting them to the supermarkets.
Hey we all have our belief systems.
My goal is to eat road kill badger.
Blood thirsty Shy.

Veggie-Sow, I've seen loads of overweight Veggies.
Much as I would enjoy debating the ins and outs of meat-eaters-vs-veggie with you, this forum is not the place to do it (IMO).
Shy, what are you on about?

So if we all went veggie, what would happen to all the animals? Loads more culling, removal of wild life habitat for bigger more profitable fields, loads of inorganic fertilizer vitamin B deficiency the list goes on. Think again and think sustainable balance. PS Have you ever known a fat vegetarian ?
Sorry have to agree with David here yes, body mass is a consequence of excess calorie intake irrespective of the source. Dorky Shy. David I think you broke a rule!

Why not? We're talking about food aren't we? Or does this new forum discrimate against veggies? Or is there some form of topic censorship that I am not aware of? All what animals? - it's an artificial population, created by man for man. No - see above. No - it takes 10x more water to feed a meat eater than a veggie, so in fact there would be more free green space. No - with more fields left fallow there would be more "green fertilizer" available. That is a fallacy. the amount of Vit B needed for health is measured in microns. That was a test to see if you were paying attention. Of course there are fat veggies. This is a debate that could run and run, like the Mousetrap, so prehaps we should stop here. ;D Veggie SOW

Veggie SOW I think you are asking the wrong person it's Roberts forums he makes the rules. Quote: So if we all went veggie, what would happen to all the animals? All what animals? - it's an artificial population, created by man for man. While the size of the population is 'man' controlled the individuals of the population were created/evolved in balance with 'Gaia'. Think back to the massive herds of buffalo on the American, now, wheat plains? Quote: Loads more culling No - see above. We must agree to disagree, see above. Quote: removal of wild life habitat for bigger more profitable fields, No - it takes 10x more water to feed a meat eater than a veggie, so in fact there would be more free green space. I think you may be a bit confused here, water in mass is blue, or clear or if very muddy brown, so why more green spaces. Also that water is not lost to the planet just gets recycled via a different route. Quote: loads of inorganic fertilizer No - with more fields left fallow there would be more "green fertilizer" available. Fallow fields do not produce 'green manure', that is a man made crop. Quote: vitamin B deficiency That is a fallacy. the amount of Vit B needed for health is measured in microns. What ever the measuring system is it is still essential. Was the myth promulgated by the racist BNP that vegan Asians in this country were suffering Vit B deficiency because in their home country they got the Vit B from impure water? If so I fell for it. Quote: PS Have you ever known a fat vegetarian ? That was a test to see if you were paying attention. Of course there are fat veggies. See we are concentrating even if our brains are all clogged up with that animal protein. What confuses me is we have all the digestive functions to process it, where as unlike a ruminant I cannot process grass. This is a debate that could run and run, like the Mousetrap, so prehaps we should stop here. I was just starting to enjoy it, do not be intimidated by David, shall we ask Robert to move the thread to the 'break room'? I have just purchased the 'testicle cook book' and will be happy to share recipes. Shy. Veggie SOW « Last Edit: Today at 5:33am by seekerofwisdom »
