I have deleted this thread which went so far off topic it could not touch the topic with a long stick (heaven knows why ) and degenerated into personal scrapping (again). NOW HEAR THIS! This was posted by derek and since corroberated by me. A member of several (all three) big podiatry forums has had their personal account hacked. We don't know where the hack was made. Might have been something entirely different. Paypal uses email addresses and passwords. Forums use email addresses and passwords. Paypal invests millions of dollars in security to protect passwords. Forums, I suspect, do not. It is pretty easy to get someones email address. PLEASE ENSURE YOUR PASSWORDS ARE NOT THE SAME ON THIS OR ANY FORUM AS ON ANYTHING IMPORTANT LIKE PAYPAL OR ONLINE BANKING!! Personally, I've changed my password just to be on the safe side. Thanks to Derek for bringing this to our attention in a desire to help. Karma for trying to help your fellow man / woman. Regards Robert

robert
I think we are all way ahead of derek here - we do all read tfs and do not need patronising and abuse from someone that is "directed" to look at the site. With respect robert, I find it very hard to believe that you award karma to a poster who is so aggresive.
Shame you have taken one step backwards for the 2 that you had taken forward.

Glad to see he is still in front then ;D I made a post to help everyone who has used a passwords to gain access to a site ( this one included) to try and prevent anyone else suffering the financial hardship and upset in their personal lives if the phishing involved them. SIMPLE AS THAT. This IMO is a very serious situation that has the potential to cause financial hurt and suffering to COLLEAGUES throughout this country especially those to which the recession is biting. Drop the sniping / wind ups on this one please lets try and work together for once to help each other And please it happens to no-one else. Cheers Derek

Hi all
I think you may find that this debate has now been moved to TFS, where there will be no moderator bias.
Enjoy, if you dare.

An excellant idea. Because the debate has reverted back to sniping at individuals which frankly I find dull (and a pain in the A**E to moderate). So by all means if you want to discuss what a nasty man Derek is for warning people about a potential security risk or how I'm showing bias for thanking him, go there and do it.
Likewise if you wish to deplore the shameful critism and marginalisation of people defending their free speech against a vicious bully, by all means do it there.
This thread, which pertains to internet security, is therefore now closed. I'll leave it up for long enough for those who want a fight to know where to go then trim it back to the on topic stuff.
