Testing the waters here. What do people think? I have, in my dingey lab, come up with a device to meet the needs of a patient which has proved useful for a few more This lady has a 2nd toe which sits atop her first. Result is a corn / occasional ulcer 2nd PIPJ and callus 2nd MPJ due to the dorsiflexion / retraction of the digit. The device is an over-riding / hammer toe splint. Looks like this It's made of lycra covered poron 3mm (poron on its own was too sweaty) with a thin (1mm) polyprop frame to stop the toe pulling the soft poron up under the toe. The stap is adjustable And held in place by tension (or can be stuck down). On, it looks like this. Its quite soft, holds the toe straight and offers cushioning both dorsal IPJ and Planter MPJ. Oh and i've machine washed the prototype twice and it held together well. What do folk think? Regards Robert

Hi Robert,
Looks good. Know of any devices designed to reduce the stretchiness of other body parts? (Seems to be a problem with some posters).
Cheers, Bel

Hi Rob Like it, especially the adjustable aspect. Bel: "stretchiness of other body parts? (Seems to be a problem with some posters)." Sorry, just to much information too early in the day Ian

Hi Robert I have a patient with just the same type of 2nd toe, their toe seems to 'float' but does get problems on dipj with callus/ulcer. Would love to try this device on her........ Podmum

Why yes bel, i have splints for all sorts of flaccid or stretchy body parts*. Would you like them covered in lycra, latex or leather (They'll love that one on TFS, hi to all our fans out there) If its you, forget it, it probably won't work! You'd need a 3 loop version and the 2 loop is still only in the design phase! The three loop is still a bunch of sketches on backs of envelopes! However... You both have my address. If you would like to try one then they are yours (or your patients) for £8 a go... Anyone else if you e mail me at footprintsorthotics@googlemail.com or PM me i can give you my address. Regards Robert Mad scientist. * fingers and wrists as well
