Hi all, I have read the recent messages about autoclaves in general but have a few specific questions as I am about to qualify as a FHP (hopefully!) and am trying to kit myself out with what I need. Robert has kindly suggested that I start a new thread about equipment needed when setting up so I will do that shortly....but...in the meantime...can anyone advise about what type of autoclave I should look for? How often do they need to be serviced or tested or both? Are there companies who offer this service? I have been offered a Prestige Medical Series 2100 but am not sure about the implications of owning rather than leasing....help!
Thanks in advance,
Irene

Hi Irene As far as Which autoclave you get is really up to you. They range from the simple top loading to the vacuum type. One of the essentials IMHO is to have a printer on the device so you can record the successful sterilisation cycle with your patients notes. Obviously the servicing costs go up with the type you choose but try your local branch meeting, many now are getting an engineer that will validate and certificate Autoclaves at a very reasonable cost when you attend the meeting Leasing ? I lease my Prestige Century 3 Vacuum Autoclave with printer over 6 years and it cost around £7000 which includes 2 ( required) services per year and the incidentals ( you pay for on top) like printer rolls, door gaskets etc. Hope this helps cheers Derek
