Hi Folks
I have just spoken to a guy who has had back problems and as a consequence now walks on the left side of his foot. He says he a build up of hard skin in that area and now has a painful little toe.
He stated that whilst walking that way is not really a problem in that he can manage to get about the pain is becoming an issue.
He is coming to see me next saturday as i've told him it is difficult to assess over the phone. Is this something that biomechanics / built up insoles could help with?
Anyone local to Huddersfield whom you recommend that I could potentially refer him onto?
Thanks Neet

Hey Neet
Impossible to say from what you've told us. He walks on the left hand side of which foot?
However, a few thoughts to mull.
Always be cautious about patients self diagnosis. He may THINK that he walks a certain way because of his back but could be the other way around. Or both symptoms of an underlying situation (LLD for eg). Or indeed completely unconnected!
Could easily be that orthotics could help with the foot pain and or even the lower back pain. Depends whats causing them.
If you feel confident assessing him i would look specifically for the following
functional LLD Structural LLD Lumbar lordosis. History of LBP Neurological status of the affected leg Muscle power / balance
Find out what the cause is, then design an orthotic with that in mind.
Hope this helps a bit. Could do more with more info!
