May I ask your opinions/experiences when referring clients on, particularly for orthotic help via the local health authority?
I recently moved from one health authority area to another and the methods of assessment seem to vary a great deal. Locally two clients were assessed only visually (and very quickly) and both offered insoles which deteriorated, again, very quickly (the stick together kind of orthotic). In my previous area the clients were assessed using more than visual methods, x rays, scans and on various machines (!) and were offered much more of a prescriptive orthotic which seemed to work in a much better way.
I am making a note of some private practitioners who offer their services locally, but I do wonder if there is supposed to be a guide as to the standard in the public sector to which each service should adhere?
I run a dom practice and will learn more about orthotics etc in order to offer the best service to my clients, meantime they would definitely benefit from a better service than they seem to be receiving at the mo!
