OPF is being rebuilt.
I welcome ideas for a rebuilding and rebranding. What do you want from a new forum? What do you NOT want from this forum?
Here's my initial ideas to get the ball rolling.
The FHP specific area has got to go. We will live in a world without borders.
Making this a clinical only board. Politics ain't cause nowt but grief. You wanna discuss politics, do it elsewhere.
etc
So, what say you?

Hi Robert New contributors with the nuts to ask interesting and important questions, like Eric (well done), in his question about Running Orthotics. These can be simple and naive or deep and intriguing but it will require new blood I think. Otherwise with the same half dozen or so posters rackin their brains to think of something fresh this forum won't go much further than mutual back patting and off the wall posts that are aetiological of boredom and contempt for rubbish OP's. How you get out to those lurkers and hidden potential contributors is one question that I don't have an answer for but I think it need careful consideration. Ah! How about a section on Knitted Orthoses for the over 65's? Patterns, stitches, new colours (of particular interest to Derek) latest design technology and a special section for synthetic wools. Titles like - 'Synthetic wool orthoses for proprioceptive insole technology' 'Ewe corner' for sheep jibes and lamb jokes (cheap and lame ) See! see what happens when the same old boring thingys get typing its all just drivel. So in the spirit of the seaon NEW BALLS PLEASE LoL Dave

Did you just volunteer? It can be arranged! Lavender is a bit girly though.
Nice ideas Dave. Was thinking on those lines. The colour scheme is just something I was playing with. How about black and white retro look?

Hi
Well done Robert. How about insisting that either:
a) posters write over their own name
or
b) posters write over a clearly identifiable 'signature'
This will have the benefit of keeping the posts non-abusive and identifying posters with whom other posters may wish to pm?
All the best
Bill

Just my thoughts.
An open forum is destined to failure if you start banning subjects. An efficient moderator should be able to manage any topic and this includes a political input. After all healthcare is the main topic on the political agenda and that isn't going to change.
This forum has been controlled by personality and this has, at times, made it difficult to engage in any meaningful debate, infact engage at all. It has been noticed how little has been happening for many months on here and when a new topic is introduced, unless clinical or practice specific it is crushed. Could this partly be due to the cut and paste mechanism allowing statements to be taken out of context? I am guilty of this and can see how emphasis changes when one statement is removed from several. You need rules.
I think the fault has lain mostly with the administration and management of this site - a very simple problem to resolve. The input on Pod Arena that seems to control "off clinical topic debate" is the opening gambit by one of the administrators, a topic introduced as a headline or newspaper article - something along these lines. If a "personality" inputs a political debate, instantly we have a clash with other personalities but if "admin" takes it forward, sometimes it bites sometimes it doesn't. Any topic can get heated but debators have a choice, engage or step back - there is an off button.
But keeping this site topic specific with back slapping input and only a handful of posters, its doomed.
For those that can, have a look at the SCP forum. It is dead in the water, all sorts of ideas to revamp including a massive spend but never in a million years will a decent forum ever develop as nobody has the ability to manage or moderate it. There is a political area but seldom used.
There we go, its how you tell 'em Robert.
Pete

I would concur with Bill Liggins's post - that posters should use a name - real or invented - so that at least we know who we are talking to. One of the problems with TFS - a site I personally enjoy, probably for all the wrong reasons - is that any anonymous poster can high-jack a serious debate or discussion when hardly anybody is identifying themselves. You think you are battling with one individual, and soon realise there are several out there, all anonymous, taking the subject this way and that. Make everybody adopt a handle I say.
