Hi Tim
I think that you are pragmatically correct. It won't happen anyway (in my lifetime) so laissez faire is the order of the day.
Having said that, I do not think that definitions are difficult, so long as they are left 'fuzzy'. A physio. will still treat a jaw problem in the way that they do anyway - a physio would still treat a lower limb problem in the way that they do - as would an orthopod. It's perhaps not widely understood that a medic can treat anything they wish to. In remote areas I believe that this still includes pulling teeth - but they only choose to do so in the absence of a specialist. The point is, that the dentist is reckoned the expert in his/her area, as we should be in ours; to paraphrase you, who would want to mess around with feet?
Until the podiatry profession grows up, recognises that the vast majority of it's perceived problems of unity/closure/progress/FHPs/Age Concern etc. etc. can only be laid at it's own door and not that of government/NHS pods/pp pods/private trainers etc. etc. then the situation will not change.
All the best
Bill

Unfortunatly the driving force behind today's health care is "ecconomics and insurance ultimately drives regulation and legislation" (cannot remember who said it but I'm sure you scribes would know)

I will echo that. Perhaps what is needed is one step at a time - this forum being one of the first steps. As far as I can gather we as members of this forum all have membership with different bodies, we have come to the profession through different routes however we all accept that ultimately we have the same objective in wanting to help the public when they have a problem ;D Podmum PS Bill - I am Wendy ;D ;D ;D

I think what you mean Wendy is; `It`s not the Becks, I just have a speech impediment ... and a stomach virus ... and an inner ear infection.`
I think we should discuss this as a matter of urgency at the old student haunt, The Gate, along with Mrs Spicer and others, this Friday at 1pm sharp!
Cheers, Bel

I'm delighted anyway Wendy.
As for you Ms Winchester, I am ashamed of you. Surely you mean 1am sharp!

Hi Wendy I have been following the Thread on Pod A that you and R E G ( Bob) have been having and I would like to advance your knowledge as to the history of " Grass Roots unification". Bob is fully aware that at the conception of the HPC some of us worked very hard to "unify " the profession / professional bodies ( Bob especially so) and we tried to get the whole shooting match under one umbrella to move the profession forward to speak with one voice and sort out the differences FROM WITHIN. Mark Russell was at the time on the SCP council and we both tried to set up a meeting with the Association hierarchy and Himself representing the SCP. The end result was .......................................................... a stony silence from and a refusal; to discuss anything. Both Mark and I were appalled at the apparent lack of interest from both sides "at the top" and came to the conclusion it was down to " vested interests " at the top of both bodies. I know Mark watches this site and has posted on it, but I'm not sure he wants to go over old ground and or do as I am doing here exposing myself for the "Troll Flack" Mark will confirm my statement should he see this post. Anyway Wendy, good luck with your task ,I wish you well, but must agree with Bill , It wont happen in my lifetime either Sorry Cheers D

Thanks for this insight and the hard work I do find it sad when people are unable to agree to disagree on some points but find that there are many points from which they are able to work together ie Age Concern/Autoclave v Disposable instruments The political system we have in this country is not to everyones likeing and there are many disagreements however when the overall security is threatened ever our disfunctional system seem to come together . Could there not be an Entente cordial for the bigger picture I appreciate that you have worked hard for this in the past and would also find the status quo disappointing but if there is no hope with folks fresh to the profession then what is left apart from the posibility of no profession left Podmum aka Wendy

Hi Wendy Look at the attitudes of those from other sites ( the one you seem to upset) How do you EVER overcome that ?? They are the ones that will never let this profession advance because of their misplaced bigotry and self aggrandisment. Without a unified profession we are in a downward spiral, which IMHO has reached rock bottom and will now suffer the consequences of that position BUT perhap ,as you say perhaps the new- un's can turn it around Good luck cheers Derek
