Hope DTTs imput gives you a bit more food for thought Andy. My comments: His surgery fee is probably a little higher than average (nice one Del . His attitude to domiciliary work is the same as mine. Its a backbreaker (different phrase but you know what I mean ) to make any money from, and riskier in terms of infection control. Cheers,

Definately David.
If DTT gets those fees then good luck to him, i wouldn't expect to get that much as an FHP though, maybe he's a millionaire now?? LOL
I'm not expecting this job to be easy, am a nurse and run a business before so i know that starting is going to be hard.

can't quite see what you have both written...!!
but, thanks dtt because I know I need to cut the chat a bit, at the moment I am putting it down to first time customers, and getting to know them etc, but although they are all re-booking, it is taking me nearly as long on subsequent visits. Yes, i am only worling a small area, but I can see this way ruin lies!!!!
Do you all find that people are generally desperate for one on one contact with someone? How do you cut this short?

Hi Karen,
For many folk the Podiatrist/FHP is their only contact with the outside world in a whole day, so they will certainly try to keep you there as long as poss.
I have some info on communication skills which I can send you if that would help. Being able to control communication without upsetting the other person is an art in itself.
Regards,
David

Hi Karen Been to Specsavers ?? if not can I have a pint of what you've just had !! ;D Yes David is right here. What you have to be aware of and make them aware is you are running a business and time is money. As much as you love to see them and they you if your not careful they will have you shopping for them taking the curtains up and down etc which may be ok when your not so busy but when you are chasing your tail to get everything done THEN is the time the problem starts because you have to break a habit How you do that is up to you but from experience if you don't start it you don't have to stop it. The other thing you will get is if you let the patients get TOO close to you , it will be very difficult for you to put your fees up to them and that is not Good so you must learn to keep a professional distance from them. You will learn in time how to do it Karen so don't bash yourself up about it at the moment things have a way of progressing naturally but Davids communication skills may be of help Anyway perhaps you should imagine you are late picking the kids up from school at each visit ?? That normally concentrates the mind ;D cheers Derek

Doms, Yippeeee, How about crazed relatives, interfering neighbours, dangerous electrics. Would you like yo wash your hands dearie, Quick squint at sinks and bathroom and one declines, as one has seen cleaner public toilets. Or even years ago only water in house was stand pipe in garden and it is pouring down with rain. Outside Khazi too. yep i dislike doms too. Double your dom fee and it is amazing how attractive a taxi becomes. Or they go down the road to your competition and ruins their lives instead. How to wreck your spine. Do Doms. So have a nice comfy surgery so that you can work in a safe clean controlled environment.Charge a commercial fee that makes it worthwhile getting out of bed in the morning. Many seem to start out doing doms for a quid and don't understand why they cant earn a living or even reinvest in the practice to increase earning potential. regards David

Hey David, good to see you here!
Agree with;
This is a great filter for those pts who don`t appreciate our service. Who needs the whiners and late payers anyway?
Yep, did this for many years and have the hip dysplasia to prove it.
Whilst my comfy, and expensively garnished, surgery is still increasing in profitabilty, the rate of increase has diminished over the last 4 months. This, coupled with my Sith Afrikkaan hubby now being out of work, has led me to relent to advertising `doing doms`, albeit at a higher price than many in my area. Tis a necessary evil. There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design podiatric patient treatment plans are under considerable economic stress in this period in history.
So, I am no longer the pod who says `Ni! I do not undertake home visits`, I am the now the brave pod who says "Ekki-Ekki-Ekki-Ekki-PTANG. Zoom-Boing. Z'nourrwringmm" Loosely translated as, yes of course I`ll come to your house.......
Cheers, Bel
